Sex and Relationships Education (SRE)

The D.E.S. circular 'Sex Education at School' states that:

'Parents are the key figures in helping their children to cope with the physical and emotional aspects of growing up!'

However, as a school we have a responsibility to ensure that pupils are adequately prepared for adult life. After careful consideration the Governors of the school have decided that the school should offer a programme of SRE. The majority of SRE is spread through the science programmes of study. However, obviously when topic work on the human body is undertaken there will be a larger context. It will be appropriate to the pupils' age and experience and will be presented within a moral, family-orientated and Christian framework. In addition we organise for children in Years 5 and 6 to have a talk by the school nurse on changes experienced during puberty.

A copy of the Governors' SRE Policy is available on our website. Parents are reminded that they can withdraw their child from all or part of the SRE provided.
