KS2 - Thames Barrier Trip

Last week, KS2 had the opportunity to visit the Thames Barrier. After an early arrival at school, we were off on the road to London. The weather was glorious and we arrived in good time. We were split into classes and were told all about how the Thames Barrier worked. We were then shown a model version of the barrier which helped us to see the mechanisms and how they worked. After that, we worked out when the barrier would need to be closed. The children did very well working out how many meters of water would mean London wouldn't flood. Lunch was spent sitting next to the Thames and the children were allowed to use the playground. It was a lovely trip and the children all enjoyed it.
