Illness at School

Children who are ill should not be sent to school. If a child becomes ill or is injured during the school day, the school will attempt to contact a parent to deal with the matter. If a parent cannot be contacted, an injured child will always be taken to a hospital Accident & Emergency Department by school staff if this is necessary. School staff are permitted to administer medication to children during the school day if the relevant consent form has been completed by a parent/guardian. If children are suffering from sickness and diarrhoea they must be kept at home for 48 hours after the final bout of sickness. All prescribed medicines are kept in the school office and a register of any dosage taken is recorded.

All school staff are qualified in basic, emergency first aid. Two members of staff hold a paediatric first aid certificate.
